Canopy daybeds are usually easy to spot from the four posts it has on its corners. This is a popular choice for children or teens because of the charming and romantic feel it exudes. A Chaise daybed is an ideal place to sit, or have a good night`s sleep, depending on the manufacturer, brand and type. They are available in a number of styles, designed as a place to stretch out for a nap, as a comfortable place to read or relax, as a place to sleep or as a lounger. Most Chaise daybeds use a modern or contemporary design.
For a more modern look and perhaps one that gives you less of a soft look, go with a wrought iron daybed instead of the traditional polished metal. You can also use darker colors in the bedding for the daybed. Look at the movement in the framing and the structure of the daybed. Curves and swirls definitely add a level of softness to the space. Straight lines do this less. When selecting the bed, choose which works for your needs.
Another option is a contemporary futon bed or sofa bed. These are very useful when you don`t have a spare room but need extra options for when you have guests. Not only are these options functional they add a modern flare to your space. When choosing a modern sofa bed or futon cover most design stores give your the option to pick the fabrics which also helps in fitting in the decor or style of your room. These pieces also do not take up allot of space and help keep your room spacious and without clutter.
Daybeds are generally used for sleeping during the daytime (as the name suggests). However, daybeds also differ from standard beds in that daybeds are commonly used as a sofa, making them ideal for use in living rooms, family rooms, dens, and bedrooms. However, because of this rather thin definition, many may still confuse a daybed with a Futon. Daybeds generally do not transform from couch to bed like a futon, and are more decorative than a futon as well, utilizing accessories such as covers, skirts, throw pillows, and comforters.
Throughout Victorian times, what we know of contemporary daybeds were nonexistent. Rather, these beds were often wood daybeds, with limited comfort to them. However, the look and charm of these beds, and all of the layers of cushions and fine fabrics is something that has remained present throughout history. You will find modern elements to them today, including eco friendly mattress options and even upholstered headboards. Still, the look of them is very much still Victorian in many cases.
