Doué la Fontaine is perhaps the most important centre for rose-growing in France and the visitor will find everything to do with roses at Les Chemins de la Rose.  

 

Within the rose gardens at Les Chemins de la Rose, which extend over 4 hectares (about 10 acres), there are more than 1300 varieties of roses both ancient and modern. New varieties are being continually added to the floral displays which extend now to over 13000 rose plants. In season, when the roses are in bloom, the scent from the gardens adds to the ambience of a stroll through the varied displays.

 

Rose plants are available for purchase and in the shop the visitor will find all sorts of guidance on rose cultivation as well as many products derived from roses - rose tea, rose syrup and rose themed and flavoured confectionery. 

 

Useful to know: Each year in July Doué la Fontaine hosts one of the largest International Rose Festivals, the Journées de la Rose, also known as La Fête du 100000 Roses, the Festival of 100,000 Roses.

 

Beginning of May till mid-September, until mid-August, every day from 9.30 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.;from mid-August to mid-September, every day from 10.00 am. to 6.30 pm

 

Allow about 1 hour to tour Les Chemins de la Rose; Guided visits only for parties of 20+ pre-booked.

 

Adults 6,50 €. Children (from 5 to 15 years old) : 4,00 €. Group rates for 20+, Concessions for students, disabled.
