Description:
The Competitions Committee of France's football Ligue 1 has blown its trumpet for peaceful stadia in Ligue 1 by banning the vuvuzela, which made World Cup 2010 in South Africa such a noisy affair. The Committee explained its decision by referring to the possibility of vuvuzelas being used as missiles at grounds. Most fans will be delighted that common sense has prevailed and that they will not have to suffer a continuous ear-shattering cacophony when following their favourite team.
Last Saturday, on the first day of the Ligue 1 season, Paris St Germain had offered vuvuzelas to its supporters supposedly to improve the atmosphere in the Parc des Princes stadium which was half empty.
A number of UK football clubs and the Turkish Football Federation have already banned the vuvuzela at venues.
The Ligue 1 decsion will not immediately affect football clubs in Pays de la Loire with FC Nantes, Le Mans FC, Stade Lavallois and Angers SCO all in Ligue 2 this season but, surely, it cannot be long before Ligue 2 grounds return to the tradition of vocal support and abandon 'les trompettes sud-africaines'.
After France's early exit from World Cup 2010, vuvuzelas could be seen on 'Promo' in various hypermarkets. Soon, the hypers may not be able to give them away.
