European Museum Night in France
La Nuit européenne des musées 2012
European Museum Night is now in its eighth year and the date has now been announced for the 2012 European Museums Night which will take place on Saturday 19th May.
The French have taken La Nuit européenne des musées to heart with many museums throughout Pays de la Loire and France in general throwing open their doors to the public and offering free admission. Participating museums will often be open late into the evening, with some not closing their doors till the wee small hours.
Although museum admission prices in France tend to be modest, if there's a museum you fancy a walk round, then European Museum Night is a great opportunity to sample French culture at zero cost for the whole family. Museums of all disciplines participate in European Museum Night whether it be fine art, folk art or science and technology.
In Europe as a whole, over 3000 museums in 40 countries are expected to take part, whilst museums in France will make up more than one-third of that total. Around 1300 museums in France are expected to participate in European Museum Night. In 2010, museums in France clocked up over 2 million visitors in one evening!
Details of museums open to the public on European Museum Night are now available on the Nuit européenne des musées 2012 website where you can search by town for local museums participating in European Museums Night 2012. (Note: Having searched under 'ville' click again on the town name to bring up a list of participating museums)
