ACO announces revised schedule for Le Mans 24 Hours 2013The organisers of the 24 Heures du Mans, the Le Mans 24 Hours race, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) have announced a revised schedule for the historic 90th anniversary running of the world’s most famous road race in 2013.
In 2013 the Le Mans 24 Hours will take place on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June with the official start time being the traditional 3 p.m. sharp on the Saturday.
The test day for the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours will be held on Sunday 9th June.
Scrutineering (technical and administrative checks) will be on Sunday 16th and Monday 17th June.
The dates for the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours, initially scheduled for 15-16 June, have been put back a week at the request of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) to harmonize the world calendar of motor racing events.
2013 sees the 90th anniversary of the Le Mans 24 Hours. The first Le Mans 24 Hours took place on 26th and 27th May 1923. The event was conceived at the 1922 Motor Show in the Grand Palais in Paris. The idea emerged from a meeting between Charles Faroux, a journalist from La Vie Automobile, Georges Durand, the ACO general secretary, some eminent members of the club, and Emille Coquille, the French representative of the Rudge-Whitworth detachable wheels company.
For a historical perspective on the race, don’t miss the Le Mans Museum, the Musée des 24 Heures at Circuit de la Sarthe, right next to the circuit entrance.
